Council Member Peggy Leavitt was first elected to the Boulder City Council in June 2011. She was re-elected in the June 2015 Municipal General Election. Prior to that time she was active in the community, with the Red Mountain Music Company and arts organizations. She was born and raised in Wyoming and graduated from the University of Wyoming. After moving to Las Vegas in 1970, she pursued a career in social work and within a few years was hired at the Southern Nevada Children's Home in Boulder City. After having worked there for a number years, she was appointed by the Governor to the position of Superintendent. When the Children's Home was closed due to budget cuts, she was hired in a management position at Child Haven where she was employed until she retired in 2002. She is married and has 4 sons and 10 grandchildren, most of whom live in Boulder City.
Council member Leavitt currently serves on the Governor's Workforce Investment Board and the Boulder City Senior Center Board.
