Council
Member Travis Chandler was elected to the Boulder City
Council in June 2007. Prior to that time he was active in the
community, coaching numerous youth sports teams through the
Parks and Recreation Department, and participated on the Parent
Advisory Council at Boulder City High School. He represented
Boulder City Council on the Citizen Advisory Committee of the
Clark County Regional Flood Control District from 2004 until his
election in 2007.
Travis settled in Boulder City with his wife Cookie in 1986.
Their two children were born and raised in Nevada, and came up
through the Boulder City schools.
Travis earned a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of
Washington, and a Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry from the
University of Arizona. He accumulated15 years experience as the
Chief Chemist at a Boulder City chemical engineering research
and development company. His research focused on concepts to
improve energy_efficient and environmentally_safe
air_conditioning and heat pump technology. Travis is an inventor
on nine issued U.S. Patents, and co-author of a number of
peer-reviewed papers in the field of chemistry.
Travis more recently earned a J.D. from the William S. Boyd
School of Law at UNLV in the school's Charter Class. He attended
the part_time evening program while working full_time in applied
chemistry research. While at Boyd, his studies focused on
intellectual property and constitutional law. After graduation,
he started working in private practice in patent law. Travis is
registered to practice with the U.S. Patent and Trademark
Office.
Travis currently serves as the City Council representative of
the Boulder City Friends of the Arts and the Community Education
Advisory Board. He is also a Nevada Public Agency Insurance Pool
and Public Agency Compensation Trust board member, and alternate
board member of the Southern Nevada Health District.
