Boulder City Police Department (BCPD) has been recognized by the Nevada Department of Public Safety as the Nevada Joining Forces Agency of the Year for 2019. The City’s two motorcycle traffic officers, funded under the crime prevention tax funds, also received honors and special recognition for their dedication to making our roadways safer through high visibility, multi-jurisdiction statewide efforts. Awards were presented at a conference this week.

Officer Pete Wheeler was recognized by the state for his work as BCPD’s coordinator. He serves as the main point of contact, schedules each event, and communicates with the other agencies to put together the events. He is also responsible for submitting the documents needed after each event. Officer Wheeler acts as the face of the program in front of local media as well.

Officer Ian Ham was recognized for outstanding achievement and excellence in the area of the “Click it or Ticket” program, enforcing speed limits and reducing distracted driving. “Officers Wheeler and Ham exemplify what Boulder City expects in law enforcement officers,” said Boulder City Police Chief Tim Shea. “They serve and protect, treat residents and visitors with respect and show great commitment to making roads safe around the community.”

Boulder City Police Department will team up with other area jurisdictions for a number of Joining Forces events through September 30, 2020. BCPD received $46,600 from the Nevada Department of Public Safety, Office of Traffic Safety to support law enforcement’s participation in the Joining Forces traffic safety campaigns during the coming year. The program has specific goals of reducing injuries and deaths on the roadways within the State of Nevada.
