The Engineering Division oversees the design, bidding and construction of quality community facilities and infrastructure usually in excess of six million dollars annually.
Our mission is to provide contract administration, inspections of capital projects and oversight of all work done in the public right-of-way. We serve as an information resource for citizens, businesses and community groups regarding capital improvement projects, permit work and subdivision review.
Engineering maintains records and drawings for all capital projects, subdivisions, developments, streets & utilities and can provide plot plans for commercial and residential lots. Information on individual lots can also be found at the Clark County Assessor Website.
Engineering can provide designers and contractors with the specifications they need to do work in Boulder City. Currently we utilize the Uniform Standard Drawings and Specifications for Public Works Construction Off-Site Improvements, Clark County Area, Nevada which are available online at the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada Website. There are some Boulder City only specifications for off-site water, sewer and electric which are not available online at this time, call 293-9200 for more information. If you are going to do work on US 93 in Boulder City you will need a Right-of-Way permit from the Nevada Department of Transportation which may also require Boulder City approval.
Professional Surveyors can access Bench Marks here or call 293-9200 for more information.
Homeowners should be aware that any work on city property including driveways and sidewalks requires a licensed contractor to pull an Excavation Permit from the Engineering Division. City property sometimes extends further into front yards than you may be aware. If you need to know where your property line begins in your front yard please call 293-9200. Construction of walls and fences on city property or right-of-way will require a Right-of-Way Agreement between the city and property owner as well as any permits required by the Building Department. Application to build walls, fences, etc. should begin in the Building Dept. 293-9282.
Business Owners should be aware that an Encroachment License is required if any part of your building is on city property or if you use city sidewalk for tables, chairs or merchandise racks, etc. An Encroachment License Information Packet is available in Engineering or call 293-9200 for more information.
Obstruction Permits are required for any temporary storage on city streets or right-of-way. This includes construction dumpsters, pod type storage boxes, landscape materials such as decorative rock, construction materials, etc. The city discourages storage on public property but permission may be granted on a case by case basis and duration is limited. The no charge permit is available in the Engineering Division.
