The City’s inventory of facilities includes a number of buildings with historical significance, many of which have undergone renovations over many years in order to accommodate modern City services. As a result, a number of City facilities have reached or surpassed capacity while others are underutilized. Some buildings have reached an age where significant maintenance and/or upgrades are required to keep the facilities viable for future use. A number of facilities have safety, security, and accessibility issues that need immediate attention. In select cases, facilities have outlived their useful life for the City, either due to physical condition or appropriateness for the functions they currently house. In light of these issues, the City of Boulder City initiated the development of this Facilities Assessment and Recommendations in order to evaluate current and projected requirements for critical City functions and City partners, highest and best use of the currently owned City properties, and recommended directions for continued or discontinued use of those properties to meet the City’s space and operational requirements over the next ten years. The recommendations in this report provide a framework and roadmap to assist Boulder City with prioritization and decision-making regarding City facilities over that planning timeframe.
