BOULDER CITY - Boulder City Police Department’s K-9 Luna and K-9 Lloyd are sometimes working in dangerous situations. Their days may include helping their human handlers work with local and federal agencies to assist in searches or pursue offenders such as murder suspects. Like many police agencies, bulletproof vests for K-9s are not in the budget. Non-profit Keeping K-9s in Kevlar raises community funds to help build rapport with law enforcement and fund K-9’s with bulletproof (Kevlar) vests.
Most law enforcement agencies receive K-9 Kevlar vests through the generosity of community donors. The quality and safety provided by Kevlar vests (made by the company K9 Storm) come with a high price: $2,600 each. The K9 Kevlar vests protect against stabbing, shrapnel, and bullets shot from common handguns. Keeping K-9s in Kevlar wants to help Boulder City in a fundraising effort to assist the four-pawed officers. Fundraising will continue until the K-9s are vested.
Keeping K-9s in Kevlar raises community funds through PayPal from their Facebook page’s “Learn More” button. Boulder City Police Department K-9s will be funded with 100% of donations received. If donations exceed that total, funds will roll over to the next department in need.
