[ARCHIVED] COVID-19: Phase 1 and Testing of Boulder City Residents Planned

The staff at the City of Boulder City have been working closely with State and County officials as we enter Phase 1 of “Nevada United: Roadmap to Recovery,” Governor Steve Sisolak’s plan to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Phase 1 includes continued, strong public health efforts and easing restrictions on some businesses and public life, with modifications. It calls for gradual opening of outdoor spaces, salons and barber shops, restaurants, and retail under strict, specific social distancing measures, hygiene, and occupancy controls. It continues to limit gatherings to less than 10 people. Vulnerable individuals are encouraged to shelter in place until a later date. The phase calls for voluntary mask usage by all Nevadans.

Phase 1 will last about two or three weeks.  “There will be requirements businesses must comply with but it is another step in reopening.  The Governor also made clear that the need to maintain social distancing and good hygiene remains as the threat the COVID-19 virus presents is still with us,” said Mayor Kiernan McManus. “I encourage our residents to continue with social distancing and good hygiene so the great efforts that we have been making for the past several weeks are not wasted.  Boulder City has avoided the worst of this emergency.  Our continued efforts will allow us to continue moving forward.”

City staff is working with regional jurisdictional partners to develop a reopening checklist for businesses. “The Community Development Department and Business Licensing staff are dedicated to safely reopening businesses per Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) and CDC safety measures,” said City Manager Al Noyola. “Prevention of new infections is going to be critical in the coming weeks. The checklists should help business owners, employees and customers.”  Anyone with questions about reopening a business can contact Raffi Festekjian, Economic Development Coordinator at 702.293.9393. You can read the plan here: https://nvhealthresponse.nv.gov/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Roadmap-to-Recovery-Phase-One-Initial-Guidance.pdf.

The Boulder City Emergency Operations Center staff secured 400 free COVID-19 nasal swab test kits for the community. We anticipate operating a drive-through clinic at Bravo Field on Monday, May 18 and Tuesday, May 19, by appointment and for Boulder City residents only. No doctor’s orders are necessary. (Nasal tests determine if you currently have the virus; they are not antibody tests.) Boulder City Paramedics and Boulder City Hospital Nurses will administer the tests. The SNHD only requires patients provide a name, address, and contact information to get the free testing. More information will be released next week.

The last day to donate household staples at City Hall is Wednesday, May 13 from 10 a.m. until noon. After May 13, please donate directly to local charities. Find more on COVID-19 at  www.bcnv.org/COVID-19
