Boulder City Welcomes New Deputy Fire Chief

BOULDER CITY – Boulder City Fire Department (BCFD) has been extremely busy through the COVID-19 pandemic. Last week, a new Deputy Fire Chief joined the team: Greg Chesser. Deputy Chief Chesser has more than 34 years of experience in fire service, with more than two decades in management. He has served as a firefighter, training officer, assistant fire chief in prevention, assistant operations chief, and as a fire chief for the U.S. Air Force. He holds an MBA in Public Administration from Columbia Southern University in Orange Beach, Alabama.

As Assistant Fire Chief Operations for the F. E. Warren Air Force Base in Wyoming, he managed 44 line firefighters and an Emergency Communications Center with five personnel. The position was approved in the FY2021 budget in May 2020 and confirmed during the June 23, 2020 City Council meeting. He officially started working with the department on July 15, 2020.

Chief Will Gray started in January and immediately saw a need to create the position. “I believe Deputy Chief Chesser will help Boulder City grow and develop our Reserve Firefighters program in the coming years,” said Fire Chief Will Gray. “His experience and reputation for strong leadership and training skills will be extremely beneficial especially as we continue to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The position helps the Department meet one of the strategic goals set in 2018, to Sustain a High Level of Public Safety Services. “Boulder City Fire Department prides itself on providing outstanding emergency medical, fire, and rescue services within a 208 square mile area for a population of approximately 16,000,” said Al Noyola, City Manager of Boulder City. “Having guidance from Deputy Chief Chesser and Chief Gray will lead our Department and firefighters to be effective and successful in serving our community.”

“I’ve been living in Clark County since the beginning of the year and currently looking to make my home here in Boulder City,” Deputy Chief Chesser said. “I have met the team working at BCFD, and I look forward to being a part of the team. I feel that Chief Gray and I, working together, can do great things to strengthen the response and efforts of the department.”
