[ARCHIVED] Swim-a-thon Benefits Emergency Aid, Animal Shelter

BOULDER CITY – Swimmers from Boulder City dove in to support two valued organizations: Emergency Aid of Boulder City and the Boulder City Animal Shelter. The Swim-a-thon, held on Leap Year Day (February 29), brought 19 swimmers to the Aquatic Center to raise funds and have fun at the same time. The event raised $2092.00 to be split evenly. Then, the coronavirus pandemic hit, shutting down the pool for several months and putting a pause on contact with the general public.

Last week, Aquatic Coordinator Cheree Brennan was able to provide the ceremonial checks to the organizations. “This money will be helpful for those who are just above the fringes of what we can provide from Federal CARES (COVID-related) dollars and State grants,” said Mary Ralph, President of Emergency Aid. “We should be able to help several families with food and utilities from this donation. We appreciate this partnership and look forward to having some of our volunteers get involved in the next event!”

The funds at the Animal Shelter will help with spay/neuter and medical costs for pets. “Boulder City residents are always so incredibly generous with their time and efforts for their shelter,” said Ann Inabnitt, Boulder City Animal Control Supervisor. “We appreciate the support and dedication of our community. In this case, the extra physical effort put into fundraising makes this donation even sweeter.”

The event turned out some impressive stats. “Two participants - Caireen Ulepic and Robert Picardo - swam 4000m (about 2.5 miles) each, and Caireen alone raised $725.00,” said Cheree Brennan, Aquatic Coordinator. “Participants included Heatwave and High School swimmers, as well as several adults. We hope to hold another event in 2021, while keeping everyone safe through the latest COVID-19 guidance.”
