POSTPONED: Public Meeting on Leash Law

11.17.20 City Code and Dogs Public Information Meeting

11/14/2020 UPDATE: Due to Governor Sisolak’s request to limit public interactions, the Police Department is postponing the public workshop on dog leashes. Originally scheduled for November 17th at the Smith Building, it will be postponed to a future date yet to be determined.

BOULDER CITY – One of the most common complaints to Boulder City Animal Control is dogs running off leash. Dogs have attacked humans, other dogs, run into the street, and in one case, a dog killed a smaller dog when the owner failed to restrain the larger animal. Due to the number of complaints and concerns about the vague code language currently on the books, Boulder City Police Department and Animal Control will be holding a public information meeting this month. The purpose is to receive input, hear concerns, and to discuss possible proposed changes to the City Code in relation to animals running at large. You must RSVP, and attendance will be limited by the required COVID-19 restrictions.

The meeting will be held:

Tuesday, November 17, 2020 - 6:00 p.m.

Smith Building

700 Wyoming Street

Boulder City, NV 89005

“We love our pets, but all too often, owners forget that even the smartest dogs still have animal instincts,” said Tim Shea, Boulder City Police Chief. “It breaks my heart when we have to take an animal away from an owner because the dog acted in a way that dogs have acted for thousands of years.”

Boulder City staff has looked at other leash laws around the country for ideas. “We want to take a common sense approach to protecting people and pets by having a code that will keep pet owners happy too,” said Ann Inabnitt of Boulder City Animal Control. “By bringing everyone to the table to discuss this, I think we can find consensus.”

RSVP by calling Hillary at Boulder City Police Department at 702.293.9214.  We will also accept written comments at
