[ARCHIVED] New Utilities Director Brings Regional Experience

Joseph Stubitz

BOULDER CITY – Boulder City is happy to announce Joseph Stubitz starts as the City’s Utilities Director today. Mr. Stubitz was selected after a lengthy regional and national search. He comes to the City after more than sixteen years for the Bureau of Reclamation (BOR), where he served as an Electrical Engineer.

The Utilities Department focuses on planning, maintenance and operations of water, wastewater, electrical and landfill. “I want to hit the ground running with the many upgrades that we have planned, to ensure continued reliable delivery of water and power to our customers in our rapidly changing environment,” Stubitz said. “The dedicated employees are the lifeblood of our organization and ensuring that they have everything they need will be critical to our success. I also look forward to working with the Utility Advisory Committee and collaborating with the community to keep our Boulder City way of life sustainable for years to come.”

Stubitz is an expert adviser for the management and implementation of the BOR's Compliance Program. He also managed the recommendations of the Power Review Information System (PRIS) for the Lower Colorado Basin Region, and insured that the facilities (including Hoover, Davis, and Parker Dams) were providing quarterly updates. He commissioned a new generator step-up transformer and unit breaker at Davis Dam in April 2018, and was responsible for review and update of Standard Operating Procedures for Hoover Dam. “Utilities Director is a critical role on the City’s leadership team, especially at a time when the sustainability of Lake Mead is so important to us all,” said Taylour Tedder, City Manager. “Joe comes with outstanding experience working in the Lower Colorado River basin and we look forward to his insight and expertise on utilities management.”

Stubitz holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Science and a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts dual degree from Colorado State University. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Nevada. “Being born and growing up in Boulder City, I was extremely fortunate to experience all that this vibrant community has to offer,” Stubitz said. “Boulder City is unique in the surrounding area in that we own and operate our electrical distribution system. When I saw the opportunity to give back to my hometown in a professional capacity, I became very excited at the possibility of joining Team BC!”

The hire comes five months after former Utilities Director Dennis Porter resigned to take a role in the private sector.
