4.26.22 Update: Experts from Nellis Air Force Base identified the explosive as an “AN-M120 Bomb Fuse” A date of May 1944 was found on the device upon inspection. Experts determined that it could still be considered “live” (if armed) as it was preserved in metal container. During the 1940’s this type of fuse was placed onto the rest of a bomb during prior to being loaded onto the bomber aircrafts. The children that found the device initially believed it was an old can of food and wanted to open it to see what food was inside, to do this they used a hammer and hit the device several times. Once they got the container opened, they read the attached tag, and told their parents, who then called police.
The device was taken into custody by the experts on scene. The area was swept by bomb experts and no other explosive devices were found. Police strongly encourage citizens to contact us when locating any similar suspicious objects in the desert and to not move or touch the objects.
