[ARCHIVED] Boulder City Finance Department Receives Award, Grants

GFOA 7.22

BOULDER CITY – The Boulder City Finance Department staff once again received the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) “Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting” for its annual comprehensive financial report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2021. The Finance Department was also awarded two grants totaling nearly $29,000 to ensure safety for visitors and employees in City facilities.

The comprehensive financial report was reviewed by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the GFOA program. The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition for governmental accounting and financial reporting. “Reading financial reports can be a daunting task for most residents,” said Diane Pelletier, Boulder City’s Finance Director. “Making sure Boulder City’s financial information is easy to understand is our top priority. The team is committed to full disclosure and transparency.”

In addition to this great news, the City received two grants from Nevada POOL/PACT’s Risk Management Grant Program:

  • $25,228.14 for AED (Automated External Defibrillator) Replacement
  • $3629.88 for an iPad/MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) Online Project

The City purchased 25 AED's ten years ago from a variety of manufacturers for City facilities. They are stored in buildings as well as some City vehicles. Most models have been discontinued and would be difficult to repair. “Replacing the AED’s will help us to better respond to medical emergencies,” said City Manager Taylour Tedder. “Having staff trained on one, universal device would be a benefit to anyone needing this life-saving device.”  The total cost for the AED’s is $33,637.50; the City will contribute 25-percent ($8,409.36) towards purchase.

The iPad/MSDS project will allow staff to purchase and install iPads and stands in the common area of eight City facilities. The main page of the iPad will have the MSDS Online as its homepage. This will enhance operations and safety in emergency situations, as staff will be able to look up MSDS information without having to run to another office for a computer.  This project will cost $4,839.84; the City will contribute 25-percent ($1,209.96). Matching funds for are allocated in the FY2023 budget.
