[ARCHIVED] Neighbors Helping Neighbors: Shop Boulder City on Small Business Saturday!

Historic Downtown

BOULDER CITY – Small businesses are the foundation of many communities. They are here for us in times of need, as we saw during the pandemic. They help boost civic pride and engagement through sponsorships and special events. Here in Boulder City, we are proud to once again celebrate by shopping at a small business on November 30, the 15th Annual Small Business Saturday! This year, the “Shop the Block” program could save you money while helping local businesses.

Boulder City businesses are stepping up the “Shop the Block” program, which the Dam Roast House started last year. “When you shop a participating Boulder City business on November 30-December 1, bring your receipt to another participating business and get 15-percent off your purchase. It’s not just residents helping local businesses. Now it’s businesses supporting other small businesses – an amazing idea!” said Jill Lagan, President and CEO of the Boulder City Chamber of Commerce. “I appreciate the efforts of Dam Roast House and other small businesses. Supporting each other in turn supports communities: public schools, parks, and roads, as well as fund public safety workers.”

According to the Small Business Administration:

  • In 2023, the reported projected spending in the U.S. from those who shopped at small businesses on Small Business Saturday was around $17 billion.
  • Since 2010, the total reported U.S. spending at small businesses during the annual Small Business Saturday is an estimated $201 billion.

American Express started Small Business Saturday in 2010. Celebrated on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, it has become an important part of the holiday shopping season. “The pride and passion for Small Business Saturday has grown immensely over the past fifteen years,” said Raffi Festekjian, the City’s Economic Development Coordinator. “More than 53-percent of Nevada employees work for or own a small business. Showing small businesses your support helps keep money in our community.”
